Diagrammatic comparison of Innexin distribution in embryonic and pupal salivary gland cells.

Antibodies against Inx2, Inx3 or Ogre reveal one location for innexins in embryonic salivary gland cells (arrow 1, red); in the lateral membrane of apposing cells near the apical (lumen) end of the cell. The same antibodies reveal three locations where Innexins are detected in pupal salivary glands; the lateral plasma membrane with high levels at the basal (non-lumen) end of the cell (arrow 2, red); in vesicles just below the basal surface of cells (arrow 3, green); and in small vesicles around the nucleus (arrow 4, black) - presumably in the golgi apparatus.
